Good after noon everyone! if you have ever frequented my little site, you will know that I love using things I have around the house for unique and fun projects. This project is no different!

Any guesses to what the base of this super cute and super quick projects was?
How about a coffee can!

You start with an empty coffee can – this was one from Costco, so a little bigger than some out there. To make the can use a can opener to remove the bottom. To get it to stay open when trying to flatten it, you will want to place a small block of wood (you could probably use a brick, etc) just inside the side of can that you want to use for the top. Then slowly step on the other side, just enough to smash it down a bit. After smooshed (?!?) – yeah, I’ll use that! – down the bottom side, use a pair of pliers to crimp the bottom to make it flatter.
At this point I knew I wanted it to hang, so I used a nail and hammer and made 2 holes in the back near the top. I then took a length of wire (22 guage) about 10 inches long and threaded it thru the holes, making a hanger and twisted them together on the inside.
Then to the fun stuff – I used an old piece of muslin and ripped it to the width I wanted (about 8 inches and 20 inches long), wrapped it around the can, and tied it in a knot, but I made the final tie loose. I then started looking for some springy ribbon and I found some fun pink gingham ribbon in my ribbon drawer (there’s a little of everything in there!). I wrapped it around and slipped one end thru the muslin knot, then tied the pink ribbon and tightened the muslin.
I honestly think it took me longer to find the flowers I wanted to use longer then to actually make it!

If you are wondering, the flowers are from Hobby Lobby. I think they complement it nicely!
I will say, I did notice that it does tend to be top heavy – just a little. I fixed that by just adding a little block of wood behind it, near the bottom. It just helps keep it more upright. And the weight of the can keeps the piece of wood in place.
I hope you have a great April!
