Outdoor Halloween Decor

Afternoon everyone! I hope you are all having a great day. Today I thought I would share some of what we have been up to at our house.

When October rolls around we start thinking of Halloween decorations. This year I opted to go a little less than normal, mostly because we have a bunch of stuff going on. But we still wanted to pull out some stuff to enjoy the holiday.

Here our skeleton friends are hanging out by our front door. I topped our largest skeleton with a witches hat and added the Witches Broom that I made for my daughter a couple years ago – I knew it would be a great decoration! The wreath has a great history! I made it for an Autumn Wreath post a few years ago, then the next year I made it into a Halloween wreath. This year I decided to take everything off it and just enjoy its simplicity.

So, here’s the question – what do you do when you find skeleton hand salad tongs at the dollar store? You stick them in a plant and make it look like a skeleton trying to escape from under it! In the picture below you can even see another pair or hands reaching out of some johnny jump ups trying to grab a gnome.

The last fun thing I did was to make some simple grave markers.

Simple cross tombstones made from pallets.

Since we use pallets for our fireplace and garden, we have them everywhere. Especially in the spring when we are replacing the wood we used the prior winter. Pallets are pretty easy to find, most places just give them away – we get ours from a drink distribution company in the area. They are free and the company usually just wants them to just go away. If you can’t find any, 1×4 lumber would work also.

These crosses measure 3 feet tall and the cross-piece measures 18 inches. I just eyed where I wanted the pieces to intersect and nailed them together with a nail gun. To get them to stand I used a u-post hammered into the ground and a piece of jute rope to tie them up. I was intending to wood burn names into the cross-piece, but after making them, I really liked them plain.

I hope you have a great rest of the day!

Dawn
