Pumpkin Topiary and Card #3

——————————————————-

Card measures 5 1/4 inches x 7 1/4 inches
Supplies used:
- Recollections Halloween dies – pumpkins
- DCWV paper pad – Wild Field
- Stampin’Up! Autumn punch pack
- Gold paper
- Brown wired ribbon

How to:
I started by cutting the base card from a 12×12 piece of brown cardstock. I cut it down to 10 1/2 x 7 1/4 and folded it so that it measured 5 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches. I then cut a piece of brown print paper down to 5×7 and adhered it to the front. And cut a piece of off-white paper to 4 3/4 x 6 3/4, then using a dauber I edged it in brown then attached it to the inside. I then cut a piece of gold paper to 4 3/4 x 6. Measuring 2 inches up from one corner I made a mark, then marked 2 inches down from the top on the other side and then cut from mark to mark, essentially cutting the paper in half diagonally. As I checked my fit, I noticed I didn’t like the plain look it had, so I gently scrunched the paper a bit the flattened it out and then adhered both pieces to the front leaving approximately 3/4 inch between the pieces. I then daubed brown lightly over the gold to dull the look of it just a bit. *Note – if you have gold that can be cut to 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 you don’t have to do the diagonal cut. I only had a 6×6 gold piece, so I had to improvise.
Then I took 3 coordinating papers and cut pumpkins using the dies. Teal for the large pumpkin, yellow for the middle pumpkin, and orange for the small pumpkin. I then took the oak and maple leaf punches and punched 33 leaves from the same paper that the pumpkins were cut from, and I punched a couple from gold. For the gold I did scrunch the paper then punched.
After everything was cut and punched, I placed adhesive behind where the middle pumpkin would be and took 2 lengths of approx. 12 inches of brown wired ribbon and on each side layered them back and forth, making sure that they stuck to the adhesive. I then folded the sides of the pumpkins up gently and attached them to the front of the card, starting from the bottom, using foam dots. I then used glue and foam dots to attach the leaves to the front of the card and the inside.

Supplies used for the topiary:
- Recollections Halloween nesting dies – pumpkins
- DCWV paper pad – Wild Field
- Ribbon – 1/2 inch wired brown, 1 1/2 inch orange organza
- Small terra cotta pot
- 14 in piece of 1/8 inch dowel
- Small Styrofoam ball
- Rice

The bow for the top of the topiary is optional.
How To:
To start I cut 6 pumpkins for each level, ending up with 6 small orange pumpkins, 6 medium yellow pumpkins, and 6 large teal pumpkins. Cut the stems off the medium and large pumpkins. Assemble the pumpkins edge to edge. Once done there should be enough to slip the dowel thru the middle of them.
Trace top of terra cotta pot onto coordinating paper, cut out. Pierce a hole in the middle large enough for the dowel. Pour rice in the bottom, place the Styrofoam ball in pot. You may need to adjust the rice because you don’t want the top of the ball above the top of the pot. Once adjusted pour more rice to keep the ball from moving.
Place the circle cut out over the ball/rice and the put the dowel thru the paper down into the Styrofoam. Using approx./up to a yard of ribbon, tie the organza into a bow on the dowel, then using the ends make another bow, and another, until out. Do the same with the wired brown ribbon. Slip the large pumpkin over the dowel, followed by the medium pumpkin and the small one. If you like the bow on top: make a small bow out of the brown wired ribbon and slip a straight pin thru the bottom of the bow and place on top of the small pumpkin.
