Birds of Metcalf: Osprey

When the osprey shows up at the refuge it is officially spring.

They are always fun to watch, just recently on our way home on an unusually hot day we wandered thru just in time to see an osprey circling a large pond in the refuge and then diving into it. And even though I have seen it before, it’s always fun to watch because they usually go under the water and immediately come back up. But this time the osprey sat in the water for about 10 seconds, just looking around. It was almost like he was thinking “ah, this is nice…”

Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera, and yes, it was a full-on head slap moment…sigh.
